This course is all about storytelling—students learn about the history of storytelling, other people’s stories, elements in stories, a variety of perspectives from around the world, and how to tell their own story. Students apply literacy skills and strategies, complete application and writing assignments, and practice grammar and usage skills. This is the first course in a two-part Ninth-Grade English series. This course also encompasses Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
This course uses Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes (KSA) model to give students the opportunity to develop both real-world 21st Century Skills and Social and Emotional Learning Soft Skills to develop college and career readiness.

What You’ll Learn
- Reading: Read and analyze both literature (fiction, poetry) and informational texts.
- Writing: Write an effective argument by coming up with a clear claim and using reliable sources to back it up.
- Other Skills: Learn how to use multimedia tools to present information, think critically about complex topics, and write with correct English grammar and usage.
- Credit Hours: 0.5 credits
